Synopsis

A border-town bombing draws Mexican investigator Miguel Vargas into a corruption-ridden police investigation led by crooked captain Hank Quinlan, setting off a deadly struggle over power, justice, and truth.

About this copy: this is the 1998 reconstruction, about 111 minutes long. Producer Rick Schmidlin and editor Walter Murch reworked the picture and sound from the 58-page memo Orson Welles sent the studio in 1957, after seeing the film re-edited without him. Welles died in 1985 and had no part in this version, which is the closest to what he intended.
